Legislative Guest: Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom
Assemblymember Ransom is a former Tracy Planning Commissioner and City Councilmember, and a former non-profit leader.
Helped get the first affordable housing project in over 50 years approved in the City of Tracy.
Also pushed through the first homelessness strategic plan and funding for the first permanent homelessness project in the City.
Worked with the Housing Authority in San Joaquin County to revitalize public housing and come up with a plan to do more infill in the county.
Legislative focus this year:
AB 736 - Assembly Housing Bond, principle co-author
AB 1414 - allows tenants to choose their own internet provider
Passed all the way out of the Assembly already and is in the Senate!
AB 13 - reforms the Public Utilities Commission
Sacramento Updates
LOTS of housing bills this year, so additional Housing and Local Government hearings have had to be added to the calendar in order to hear them all!
May 2 is the deadline to get bills with a fiscal tag through their policy committees.
AB 647 (Gonzalez), HWG member-priority bill to increase the development of smaller, more affordable homes in exclusionary neighborhoods, made it out of Asm. Housing Committee.
AB 595 (Carrillo), HWG-derived and member-priority bill to create tax credits for income-restricted homeownership opportunities is up in Asm. Housing on 4/30.
May Revise of the state budget coming up in mid-May.
Governor Newsom has proposed a re-organization of the California Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency to split it into separate agencies so that there is a state agency solely focused on housing and homelessness issues.

A morning reception with breakfast and coffee to talk through the agenda for the day
2-5 meetings with Senate and Assembly offices, representing Senate and Assemblymember leadership, Chairs of key committees like Housing, Appropriations, and Local Government, and Chairs of key caucuses like the Black and Latino Caucuses
A catered lunch event – specifics TBD by those planning to attend!
An evening reception with food and drinks where HWG members and various legislators can meet and mingle
