  • Abundant Housing LA

    • Culver City was the first to vote to allow single-stair buildings up to 6 stories, but the ordinance has to be approved by the building standards commission – that meeting is December 16.

    • Support is needed to counter the traditional opposition to this policy.

      • Coalition sign-on letter coming soon!

  • California YIMBY

    • Multiple in-person town halls coming up to meet with folks locally to talk about our 2026 legislative agenda, how to get involved and advocate better for your own priorities, and share ideas for other 2026 or 2027 legislation.

Legislative Guest: Assemblymember Sharon Quirk Silva

  • Assemblymember Quirk-Silva serves as California’s 67th Assembly District representative, which includes the communities of Anaheim, Artesia, Cerritos, Cypress, Buena Park, Fullerton, Hawaiian Gardens, and La Palma.

    • At the top of her list of priorities are affordable housing, addressing the homelessness crisis, and supporting California’s businesses.

  • Big takeaways:

    • Education is the foundation of success in making our communities more livable – education of our communities, education of our legislators, education at every level.

    • Talk to many different people, different legislators and advocates, as you push for policies. Many key bills would not have passed without the support of both Democrats and Republicans, or without unlikely coalitions.

    • In 2026, the Assemblymember will continue to champion solutions to the homelessness, housing, and affordability crises.

    • Sometimes it’s the small bills that have the biggest impact – clean up bills can take a policy that isn’t working very well and make it a huge success.

    • Looking for ideas related to access to capital, especially for single-family homeowners that want to build ADUs but are struggling to put together the financing.

      • If you have ideas, reach out!

    • The Assemblymember thanks you for all the work you do!

      • Please reach out to Emily (emily@cayimby.org) and Sosan (sosan@wstrategiesllc.com) if you would like help getting in touch with Assemblymember Quirk-Silva’s office about any of the ideas she raised, or with more of your own!
